If you want to get your customers reviewing you online, appeal to their good nature. Robert Cialdini’s research highlighted that asking the question “Are you a helpful person?” before asking them to leave you a review can result in a 77.3% increase in participation! Not to be snubbed at hey?

Once they say yes, let them know you’ll send them over an email allowing them to provide their feedback, telling them how helpful it would be for you to hear their opinion. Their helpful nature will do the rest…

 

2. Strike whilst the iron’s hot

 

If you want someone to take the time out of their busy schedule to review your business then you need to make sure you provide them with an opportunity when their interaction with you is front and centre of their mind.

Soliciting reviews around the point of sale can see an increase of around 80-90% in completion rates. If you’re sending a review request 6 months after your interaction with a customer, you’re probably too late! They’ve forgotten about their experience and moved on. You’ll need to factor this in when coming up with your strategy for procuring online reviews…

 

3. Be bold… ask for top marks!

 

Obviously, this one is going to come down to a case-by-case basis, but if you’re proud of a job well done and know you have a genuinely satisfied customer on your hands then take advantage of it! 

If you’re transparent and honest about the positive effect it will have on your business, most customers will be more than happy to repay your fantastic service with top marks.

4. Turn a negative into a positive

 

The simple fact is that you’ll never get five stars or 10/10 on every review you receive. You need to be ready to take every low ranking review you receive and think on your feet.

Take each negative review as an opportunity to turn it into a fantastic one. Heck, at least you’ll already know that the customer is willing to leave a review. That’s half the battle! Now you just need to get to the root cause of their bad experience and do whatever it takes to turn their frown upside down.
